COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Yoga has a rich and long history spanning millennia. The spiritual books of India such as the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita & Upanishads are often taught as part of initial teacher trainings, but it is beyond the scope of a 200-hr training to cover these important texts in any detail as there are so many other subjects that are important to cover, such as sequencing, anatomy & assisting. Further training is an essential part of being a yoga teacher.

This 20-hr CPD course accredited by the Yoga Alliance will be an opportunity to focus on the concepts that these books raise, and learn how to teach them effectively as part of an asana-focused yoga class. Suitable for new & old teachers alike. If you feel that you need to brush up on your philosophy then this course is for you.

The course will cover 3 main areas:

The Yoga Sutras is perhaps the most studied of the texts. The eight-limbed practice (Ashtanga) is the most well known part, but the book also discusses subjects such as consciousness (citta), metaphysics (samkhya), duhkha (suffering), liberation (kaivalya) & the obstacles to attaining liberation (kleshas).

The Bhagavad Gita is a very important text that is often omitted from some teacher trainings. It contains essential teachings on concepts such as dharma (duty), karma (action), bhakti (devotion) & jnana (knowledge).

The Upanishads are a collection of texts spanning hundreds of years covering subjects such as samsara (the endless cycle of births & deaths), OM & mantra, prana & pranayama, koshas (sheafs), morality or right actions, and self-realisation.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualified yoga teachers will receive a 20hr CPD certificate accredited with Yoga Alliance Professionals on completion.

Curious students who are interested in learning about the philosophy of yoga are also welcome to join.

This course will be delivered in our Cannon Street Studio.
